2013 Riverfront Times "Best of St. Louis" Winner: Best Thrift Store

We are proud to be a Best of St. Louis winner! Here's what the Riverfront Times wrote about us...

What kind of thrift store tries to sell you broken crap for just under retail price? Plenty around here, it seems. But not the Salvation Army Family Store and Donation Center. The midtown location is especially good about pricing objects appropriately, according to their chips, scratches and usability. But beyond the everyday pricing, the Family Store also features major sales nearly every weekend.

2013 Winner RFT Best of St. Louis

Visit on a random Saturday and you may find that women's clothing is 50 percent off, unisex T-shirts are $1 each or classic vinyl albums are four for a buck. The pickings aren't skimpy, either — this location has one of the largest vinyl hauls and formalwear departments anywhere. The best part? The store is well organized, and constant cleaning means that pesky "thrift-store smell" is kept to a minimum.

Our 39¢ Treasure Hunt Boxes... Now available everyday! We'll be uncovering "treasure" from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm each and everyday. Stop in and dig! When it is gone, it really is gone!

Whose Life Will Your Donation Transform? Read Trevor's Story!

Trevor grew up in Kansas City, in an upper-middle- class area. His mother was married to a dentist, he lived in a good neighborhood and had several friends. But as the years went by his mother and stepfather decided to get a divorce, and in a split second, he went from upper-class circumstances to living in public housing with his grandmother... Why The Salvation Army Donation Center? Read a Donor Letter!

I was truly inspired today by the dedication and professionalism displayed by members of your staff. This note expresses my sincere appreciation for their efforts and asks that you commend their work. The staff members at your facility that were instrumental in helping me who I am writing about are: Mr. Rohn Beardsley, Nick, and Kenny. Nick and Kenny came to my home in Chesterfield as dispatched in a "special" pick-up by Rohn.

Rohn was extremely courteous, informative, and went beyond expected job duties to accommodate my schedule to pick up five pieces of furniture, and about 25 bags of clothing. Besides scheduling my pickup, Rohn was able to help solve a very disturbing problem when I inadvertently gave away a $300 box of lighting fixtures that went out with the truck of furniture, due to my negligence.

When I called Rohn, he reassured me that he would recover the unintended donated box as soon as possible and get it back to me the next day, or I could come down to pick it up. I elected to meet Rohn at his office on Forest Park which provided great relief to retrieve my lights so quickly. Rohn was a pleasure meeting in person when he returned the box of fixtures. He explained the adult rehabilitation program in a very personal way that greatly increased my appreciation for the program. Because I was able to feel Rohn's success in the Salvation Army program, I am firmly committed to encouraging all my family and friends to find every opportunity to donate to this very important program.

Nibbles of Spiritual Nourishment from Major KK Matthews

Commitment
Loyalty to the needs of others is a true gift from God.

Today's Morsel
Commitment for you, a person of integrity, is first unto the Lord, who created you in His own image. It is obedience to God through spiritual combat, not merely lip service.

Scriptural Nutrient
"Oh, God, here I am, your servant, your committed servant: set me free for your service! I'm ready to offer the Thanksgiving sacrafice and pray in the name of God."

Food for Thought
Our service to humanity is one of devation to God's people. He committed His Son to the world, even when the world abondoned Him. He wants the same type of allegiance from His followers.
